The folks at Project Luangwa have been very busy the last few months. Project Luangwa – just to recap - is supported by many camps in Zambia (such as Flat Dogs, Bush Camp Company, Norman Carr Safaris, Robin Pope Safaris, and more).
First the bad news. The lack of rain over a long period in 2013 had devastating effects on little Kapita Community School in the Nsefu Chiefdom. The ground around the classrooms cracked and cracks started to appear in the school building as well as in the head teacher’s house. It would be incredibly expensive to fix these, so we are watching to see what Project Luangwa comes up with to fix this…..but we bet that it will find the best and most cost-effective way to do it, and we are holding our breath while we wait to hear what the solution will be.
Now the good news. Over the last few months Project Luangwa has been concentrating on building at various locations. Here are the photos of the new girl’s dormitory at Mfuwe Day Secondary School funded by a visiting volunteer doctor, Dr Cathy Love, through the Bush Camp Company.
The builders and planners wanted to get away from the standard ‘school yellow’ so they asked the girls what colors they wanted. Pink and purple was the unanimous reply. They certainly got what they wanted in the dorms and their new ablution block! Check out these photos for the lovely colors….just waiting for the doors to come in and these gorgeous girls’ dorms will be ready!
